Audi A3 1.4 TFSI - Clutch feels firmer and harder to keep pressed - sandycar

Hi,

I have an audi a3 2014 1.4 tfsi and the gearbox felt abit stiff/sticky in the gears whilst shifting. So i took it my local mechanic and he drove it around abit with me in the passenger seat. He revved it alot and at the end he took it back to garage and said he needs to do 1 more test.

So he put the handbrake on and looked at the rev counter abit whilst accelating in 1st then made the car stall, then he got out and said it's ok but the clutch is abit hard. Is this a normal things to do,

When I drove home the clutch does now feel firmer/harder to push than before, anyone know if the mechanic damaged the clutch in anyway and how to make it softer again.

the biting point also seems different but its still mid way

Sandy

Seems a bit brutal to me. Usually accelerating from a low speed in high gear will show up any problems with the clutch.

Hard clutch pedal and difficult gear selection can often be caused by a faulty clutch. It may not be worn out , as has been proven by the mechanic’s stall test , but it could be the pressure plate part of the clutch pack that’s in trouble.

I'd say normal test. I usually slip the clutch a bit in a high gear then hit the throttle whilst dropping the clutch - if all ok revs snap back into line.

Stall test is an alternative way of checking.

Sticking gears not usually caused by slipping clutch though. It's a dragging clutch. My wife's Panda had a similar problem which slowly got worse eventually causing the pedal to stick to the floor. It was a failing valve which is part of the external clutch slave. I think your 1.4tsi has the same sort of valve in external slave - cheap fix as well as gearbox wont need removing.
