Help , so ive just bought my first cheap car a 2006 Citroen piccaso xsara 1.6 petrol it's all that a £500 car should be but I'm having a issue with the speedo cluster, when I got the car the left side is dim I've tried new bulbs and messing with dimmer but seams the entire left side no bulbs want to work any advice? Just to add when I did fit new bulbs I noticed one bulb didn’t come on but let a little smoke out but again nothing lit up on left side

If I recall, there are 10 bulbs that illuminate the dash . They are the small cap less 286 type . It’s possible that the bulb holders are not the correct type and don’t make a good contact with the dashboard printed circuit. Have you tried transferring the working bulbs to the left side ? If this does not work, then it’s likely to be an internal fault on the circuit board.

Hi thanks for the reply, yes I tried a working bulb
(Indicator) which I knew worked I tried it in a random
Bulb on the left side but still no joy, Coild it have something to die with fuse?
I would of thought if it did it would affect the entire cluster though

Can’t see it being a fuse problem. I suspect the internal printed circuit is damaged.

Cheap fix would be a s/hand pod . Mileage would probably show differently, but doubt if that would matter.

The only trouble with a second hand cluster is the mileage will revert to the highest of either the ECU in the car or the new instrument cluster. On a £500 car this probably won't matter. It's an odd way to do things but that's Citroen for you.

I can live with that lol suppose it’s better then not be able to see the mileage

All sorted picked up a second cluster from breakers
Tonight was a whole £19 lol bonus is that it’s kept my original mileage

Smoke coming out of a bulb would indicate to me that it wasn't sealed (crack in the glass) allowing the filament to burn. Filament bulbs have the filament in a vacuum or inert gas, once air is introduced the oxygen lets the filament burn.
