Ford Focus - Ford focus cut out? - ben100

Ford Focus 06 1.6 petrol manual. I was driving & went to change gear as normal but when I did it felt like a pull as if when you take your foot off the clutch very quickly so I tried the next gear & it did the same changed gear but a big pull with it. A bunch of lights lit up on the dash & steering went hard so basically it had cut out so I pulled over turned the car off waited a minute started it up again & it's been fine since. Just wondering what could this be as I don't want it happening again?

Possibly check the leads and plugs. Apart from that it probably needs to be hooked up to the Ford diagnostics to see if any codes are being stored. Is this the 100 or 115bhp engine, i.e variable valve. I have read on the FFOC site sometimes the variable valve solenoids can play up but I don't think that causes the engine to cut out, just run badly and store codes.

I would check the 3 pin plug that connects to the ignition coil. Make sure it’s tight and secure. The wiring to it is often routed in a tight bend that can cause it to become lose from the coil.

Are you referring to the ignition coil plug connector as I had this replaced with a new one around a year ago as it did break down & the fault was found to be because of that.

I believe it's the 100bhp engine. When you say hooked up to Ford diagnostics do you mean an OBD code reader & if so would it show the faults even though there are no fault lights showing on the dash?

The Ford diagnostics is far more in depth than a standard OBD and will provide codes/faults that an OBD will not even with no dash lights on. Ford dealers or specialists should have it. It you want a go yourself you can download Forscan or Forscan lite for a phone and buy a suitable ELM327 interface device to plug into the OBD port, but depends how Techy you are!
