Mini cooper cabriolet 1.6 06 plater - Driveshaft bearing carrier - strickjumpers

Hello..

I'm suffering the dreaded 50mph shake and on investigation following forum advice decided to replace offside driveshaft owing to excessive backlash.

I have from the scrap a shaft from same model..only difference there is non matching numbers on Central bearing carrier casting.

The one on the car is 028..the spare is 021..its difficult to measure as shaft fitted is compressed but not sure by how much.

Anyone know if numbers here must match to fit?

Thanks.

Mike

Not sure what the numbers refer to , but may be Id numbers from the manufacturers. Any reason for fitting a s/hand shaft , if there is a known problem with these? New shafts available from £70 .

Hi.

There's a fair bit backlash in cv joints...

Heard through the forum this causes a shake at 50mph.

Not wheel Balace as had new tyres fitted

Shakes so bad caused offside shocker to pour oil.

Heard also could be engine mount but this is easiest and first port of call.

The numbers are heavily embossed on carrier..look like they are a code to dimension of something.

Thanks again.

Mike
