Car for Disabled Mum - Zippy123

Mum uses a walking frame and wheelchair.

We have tried looking for a car she can transfer in to from wheelchair to car seat but have had no luck.

Are there any van conversions that the forum can recommend that can take a wheelchair, ideally allowing the wheelchair to be in the passenger seat position or allow movement between the loaded wheelchair (with passenger) and then the passenger transferring to the passenger seat?

No diesels please with a DPF please as mileage is under 5k per year.

Many thanks!

The only van conversions I've seen have put the wheelchair in the rear load area.

Crossovers and SUVs have higher seating positions than conventional cars so a "soft-roader" might suit the purpose.

For many years a similarly disabled near neighbour has had a Ford C Max, changing every three years or so, presumably 'motability' deals. Apparently they don't make them any more but there must be loads of used ones which have had an easy life.

The VW Caddy official conversions seem well thought out. They have solutions for a rear ramp access or as an alternative an automatic loading arm for the passenger compartment of a collapsed chair (at least for the LHD version).

This is a local company to me but they also claim to be the largest in the UK. They offer the option of driving from a wheelchair or travelling in 1 as an upfront passenger. They also sell used (presumably Motability returns).
