Volkswagen Golf Estate - Spare tire different to other 3 - LeeLee83
Hi all,
Woke up this morning with a flat tire )nail right through it!)
My spare is 195/65 R15
My other 3 are 205/55/ R16

I live 50 miles from my tire garage.
Will I be alright to drive for a couple of days with one odd tire?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, ok if you stick to "space-saver" rules of maximum of 50 miles at 50 mph.

It isn’t a space saver though, does that matter?
It’s just a plain old steel wheel.

Its what VAG call a "temporary spare".

Our Fabia has 215 45 16 tyres on 16" alloy wheels.

The spare is a factory option 195 55 15 tyre on a 15" steel wheel (according to the brochure it was £100 more than the bottle of glue).

The circumference/diameter of the the 2 is virtually identical thus will not affect ride height. But the fact its a different size and construction means its limited to 55 mph just like a space saver, in truth there is such a sticker on the wheel.

The 15" one we have is by far preferable to a bike tyre'd space saver.

Suppose it would be better still if it had a matching spare to the 4 road wheels, it would fit in the wheel well, I tried just to check.

Someone told me that the 15" wheels used for these "temporary spares" are lighter in construction than the 15" steels used normally. No idea if its true, must save only a few ounces if it is, would seem pretty pointless.
