Toyota corolla verso 2.2 D4D - Black smoke from exhaust - strickjumpers

Hello

Purchased car sitting for 2 monts needing starter.

MOT passed 4 months ago and minimal miles since.

Failed first mot on emissions.

Next day passed.

After bump starting car and letting fog clear exhaust emissions appeared cleared.

After driving a couple of miles car started pouring black smoke thought it was cat regenerating but wrong colour smoke..belching black..

Any thoughts please...car perky enough and engine noise in keeping with milage..heard worse...oil change light on.

Thanks.

Mike

Try giving the EGR system a good clean.

Is this a D-CAT or the normal 2.2 ?

Broken/stuck piston ring, maybe?

Maybe do a compression test

You need to tell us make, model, engine, fuel, age so we can advise properly...

and change the oil, or at least DIP it !

Black smoke from exhaust - Xileno

I merged the two threads earlier, the make of the car was not in the subject line of the other thread, hence why ORB asked for the details.

Black smoke from exhaust - strickjumpers

Hello...thought the title included make and model..sorry.

It's a 2007 toyota corolla verso 2.2 D4D...

133k..no history...oil at top of limit on stick but realy dirty.

Removed starter to replace..when doing this intercooler bottom pipe removed...cup of oil poured out..is this normal? Does this point only to turbo bearing or could it come through the breather ie..injector bottom seals?

Bit lost here..understand oil should be blue or white..this smoke is jet black.

Thanks.

Mike.

Sounds to me like a over fuelling issue, stuck injector would do it.

What about the oil collected at intercooler bottom hose...should intercooler be wrestled out and cleaned or will it be pretty much drained?

As I said smoke jet black so does thet rule the turbo out or still possibly the culprit..ie..less boost too much fuel?

Thanks.

Mike.
