I wonder if she paid for it?

That's for Windsor. I wonder if it was her that bought the Peel for getting around Buck house?

I assume she paid for it. She can't be eligible for Motability unless she was on disability benefits prior to retirement age. Not that she retired, wasn't she still doing public duties well past 90?

The local FB group is full of moans about the Queen's new buggy, with ordinary folk struggling to pay for electricity etc.

If I wanted one I'd get one. And if I lived at Windsor Castle I'd probably need something to get me round the garden. Not that need has to come into it. It does seem rather extravagant, but that's how money works - one can choose how one spends it, and one apparently has.

I understand some people pay thousands to go on cruises - massive waste of money in my opinion, but they don't seem to care what I think:)

One doesn't usually have the need for money.

£62k for a Golf buggy is massively extravagant. You can buy them (electric, and with 4 or more seats) for around £10k (or way less than that if one doesn't mind buying Chinese!)

As you no doubt recall, the marginal utility of brass diminishes as the amount available increases. There are a lot of people to whom £62,000 is not a vast amount of money and the Queen does have a few million of her own.

Actually I suspect HM has a fairly healthy attitude to money. She's known to have a fairly modest lifestyle in many respects, allowing that she has a few large houses, and to deplore waste.

However much or little you have, money isn't a problem unless you run out. When you're 96, you identify something that will make your remaining life easier, and you have the cash and no other plans for it, you should buy the something. I've no doubt she has chosen the best of British craftsmanship.

To give employment to the artisan.

Built by Garia (a Danish electric utility vehicle builder) in collaboration with Mercedes Benz, hmm.

I have no problem with the notion of HRH needing a golf buggy to get around. My point is that it is still just an electric golf buggy. It may have comfier seats than the typical golf buggy, which would obviously be desirable to ageing bones. Leather upholstery?, depending on your own opinion this may be desirable, but neither makes it worth 500% more than a 'normal' golf buggy. The other stuff mentioned, like an infotainment screen and bluetooth, would the Queen be interested in or know how to use them?.

I don't know if there any UK made golf carts(?), probably not. Assuming that to be the case, a standard golf cart could have been purchased and then given to a UK company to make it more suitable for the Queen's needs. Not only would this be supporting a UK business, but the end result would almost certainly have still cost considerably less than £62k.

That is a pity.

What is? The unavailability of a comparable British product? The ever decreasing level of engineering and manufacturing proportion of our GDP? The lack of available skilled British artisans for the manufacture of such a product? At least her Bentleys with their mid-twentieth century engineering have lasted 20yrs, although I doubt if they have covered many miles and been outside much.
