Mitsubishi Outlander 2008 - Cambelt or Chain - Crickleymal

Hi all. First post here. I'm looking at maybe buying an Outlander but I'm a bit confused as to whether they have belts or chains. One website I looked at said 2.0 litre engines from 2002 to 2008 were belt and 2.0 from 2008 were chain. Then there's the 2.2 litre engine which seems to be from 2008 but I can't find any info on it. Both the cars I'm looking at are 2008 but one's a 2 litre the other is 2.2. Anyone help me here please?

Seem to be lots of different engines in these . The early 2.0 diesels are VW engines and belt drive . Later 2.2 are Psa Ford/Peugeot diesels , belt drive . Not too sure what other power units are used .

But that contradicts the answer just previous to yours.

Not a car I’d buy at this age and money. They rot badly underneath and the engines (particularly the 2.0 VW) can suffer plenty of problems. Non-service parts are expensive and many are dealer only due to low sales volumes. Fuel tanks can rot, front crossmembers crumble but engine problems will probably be the killer at this age. The 2.4 petrol is a robust engine but they’re thirsty, from memory the post 2008 examples are chain driven and older cars were belt. Unless you absolutely must have an SUV I’d steer away from them if you’re on a limited budget.
