So, we placed an order for a new MG HS back in early Nov. We were told it would be delivered in March and a trade in price was agreed for our Auris. We got the expected call on Friday from the dealer to say that our car will now not be arriving until "late May/early June". Fair enough, seems to be pretty common these days for various reasons. However the dealer was non-commital when I asked him about the agreed trade-in price "err, we'll need to look at that" or something similar.

My question is can the dealer renegotiate or indeed change the agreed trade in price which we have in writing on the documentation we have, given that they are the ones who can't keep their part of the deal?

Any thoughts would be very welcome

You could check the offer from the various car buyers, and if they offer more, take it.

But did you have an affinity deal?

The price of the car might rise before delivery, check your contract.

There is a discussion on the mr-rover.org forum about deliveries, you are not the only one fretting!

SSangyong have nice Korando available if you can't wait.. and I like (personally) the interior of the Korando more. Dislike the "stuck on touch screens above the das on the HS. Did you notice how much the Pilot system loers the interior reversing mirror.

Yes, I knew it was a problem across the MG range re supply/delivery which is why I wasn't surprised to get the call. And yes, we can wait, the Auris goes about it's business competently without fuss or drama.

And yes again, it's an affinity deal so incredibly good value for the vehicle we're (eventually) getting. We have been quoted about £1200 more from WBAC for the Auris which obviously we wouldn't actually get (usually knock off about 10% of quoted price in my experience, although the local WBAC guy here is actually pretty decent and straightforward)

The price of our HS is fixed before the recent increase so we're okay there (just under £21K for an exclusive manual petrol with the red leather interior)

My first task when we get the car will be to learn how to permanently turn off the pilot system, it's a 2022 model so most of the annoying beeps and warning alarms have already been discretely disabled or removed!

WBAC don't knock anything off if the car is as described - at least they didn't for me, but the car was in retailable condition.

I think one of the posters on the HS section of the forum was unhappy that he had to redelete things every time there was a software update.

Remember not to drive while you are resetting stuff till the update/reset has finished.

My daughter in law has just traded a one year old MG SUV. It was constantly throwing up computer error messages and stopping. It was in and out of the dealers under warranty but the same problems kept coming up. In the end she had to get rid of it. Hope yours is better. Perhaps she just got a Friday car.

The Chinese manufacturers are renowned for very short development times, which non-Chinese car makers just can't match - perhaps they skip, or shorten, the reliability testing stage.

I (myself only) think that the computer chip(s) used in certain functions are underpowered or somewhere along those lines as the screens can be slow at times.

But maybe they are updated in newer models.

On the HS forum, someone said the software is based on windows CE.???

The old, underpowered, microprocessors is the main reason the automotive industry is in the state that it’s in.
When we locked down in early 2020, there was a huge uptake in laptops, games consoles and IT that people would use whilst working from home and not being able to socialise.
Chip production was switched from automotive to consumer goods, which inevitably used more up to date components, with a greater profit margin.
And guess what? Those manufacturers now don’t want to go back to making low tech, low margin, microprocessors for cars.
The ‘just in time’ model didn’t foresee a global pandemic.
