I see the TJC is no longer highlighted as a link!.
For the reasons mentioned, I wouldn't have either Ford as an auto. First thing is that I think the sliding doors will have to be forgotten about as I can't think of anything within budget (and bearing in mind current used car prices are crazy!) with sliding doors, you certainly won't get into the auto version of the current shape Berlingo or its kissing cousins the Vauxhall Combo Life and Peugeot Rifter. Actually, you could get into a Mazda 5, which is a C-Max sized 7 seater with sliding doors, and the auto box is reliable, but they are not very common.
Another question is just how big does this car need to be?. The reason I ask is because the Ford B-Max isn't a big car, so if you don't need a big car, no real point in having one just for the inclusion of sliding doors (I'm assuming this is the reason there is no mention of the C-Max, only the Grand C-Max?). The Honda Jazz is at least as spacious as a B-Max, but has a much more reliable auto transmission. Slightly less spacious but equally reliable is the Toyota Yaris.
There are other C-Max sized options worth considering (without sliding doors). Vauxhall Zafira Tourer and Toyota Verso spring to mind.
Possibly an estate version of a Golf/Focus sized hatch depending on gearbox type.
Going back to sliding doors, if they really are a big thing, the only other suggestion I have would be to look into a JDM (Japanese) import MPV. Something like a Honda Stepwagon, Toyota Noah/Voxy and various others. If you choose to go down this route, go to a respected specialist in Japanese imports as you need to be sure everything needed has been done (underseal as they don't salt roads in Japan, and rear foglights fitted).
