Renault Clio 1.5 Diesel - emissions claim - malct

Hi All, I have a 2017 Renault Clio Diesel 1.5 zero Tax and to be honest , I am happy with it.

Recently i have been getting emails saying that i can claim from Renault for the emissions and please contact us Blah Blah Blah , I know its junk mail and most likely it may have come Via we buy any car cookie when i got a online quote for the car.

Just a question , Is it wise to follow up any on these emissions claim's via a decent company if you can find one or is it all a scam

I'm all for compensation for people who have genuinely been wronged or injured through neglect resulting in negative financial implications, but the whole dieselgate saga is becoming a joke and companies muct be spending millions on defending claims, we all pay for that.

The amount the lawyers are spending on adverts on TV, radio and online also has to be paid from somewhere.

How do you prove the loss?

it was like PPI, the amount of adverts and its the companies making the money and not the claimant and i guess it needs to be a sure case before taking it on.

Funnily enough, saw a similar ad above a urinal in a motorway service station today making the offer to any diesel owner or leased car user from 2008 to 2020. Implied up to £10K was possible.

Laughed, and thought ambulance chasers. They will want 30% if you win on a no win, no fee basis.

Wouldn't waste my time, TBH.

It's 50% they want, not 30%

I won't be bothering , More hassle than its worth and to be honest, I am happy with my car and even better when i am Zero Car tax.

I just feel that its wrong that these companies try and gain money from Diesel owners

We bought 2 diesels between 2008 and 2020 and both fell well short of the official figures. The 2008 BMW 118D averaged 47 mpg against an official of 62.8 mpg over 5 years. The 2010 Kia Ceed CRDi averaged 51 mpg against an official of 60 .2 mpg over 5 years.

Thing is I knew neither would do the official mpg figures figures and I was happy with the economy of both. Just demonstrated how fitting a car with stop/start can affect the official figures, BMW had it, Kia did not.

Might put a claim in if its guaranteed no cost to me.

From what I've seen and the wording of the ads, they're trying to set up a class action suit, a bit like in the USA. However, I don't think they happen in the UK do they?

There are similar provisions in UK - or at least England and Wales. There's even a textbook on the subject:

I think the general method is via something call a Group Litigation Order the making of which requires the consent of a Senior Judge eg the President of the Queens Bench Division. A recent high profile example was civil action brought against The Post Office regarding its Horizon accounting system. This was ultimately settled and is separate form the Criminal Convictions which were overturned.

I think there is also Group Litigation in process regarding VAG and the 'cheat' issues around its engines.
