jaguar xf 2011 facelift - brake pedal switch - tinkerer

I had new EPB cables fitted for MOT recently now EPB fault warning on dash.

took car back and been told it is the park brake switch at fault but they are reluctant to do it because its a major job apparently (steering column off etc.) I've do some looking and it may not be that hard and switch appears to be only about £20 is this something I could change myself or is it a dealer job?

Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

thanks hobbyman.

Not too sure why it now needs an epb switch ? Was it ok before repair of the cables ?

Hi Thanks for your interest in helping.

Yes everything was OK it went in for mot and park brake seized on on NSR they said cause was sticking hand brake cable so replaced both cables at a cost of £320 and it then passed mot I new there was an issue as you could smell the friction material on that side after driving it but I new MOT was imminent so left it .

less than 50 miles later on comes EPB fault on dash so took it back they have checked their work and said thats all fine but cleared fault codes and is all ok but as soon as brake is pressed EPB fault warning on display comes back. They said they did this 3 times and same thing happens so suspect the switch.

that's all I know and they do not want to carry out the repairs as they say it involves removing the steering column.

Really can’t see how the switch can be faulty. As the brake was ok prior to the cables being fitted, I would suspect there is a problem with the drive gear and motor assembly. It’s possible that the plastic cogs have been damaged when the new cables have been fitted .

Has the diagnosis come from the plug in on the car and was this a Jag dealer or specialist. Sounds a right stupid design to have to remove a steering column for a £20 switch. Have you tried Google U tube or Jag forums for more info?
