So he has rewired the socket to be 'off' with ignition? Some people have their dashcam live when parked to record carpark bumps, I wouldn't expect a dashcam to draw much current, it could drain a battery over several days, I suppose.

I just fitted a a Nextbase using their hardwiring kit and the DC/DC converter in the power lead to the camera has a low volt cut off to avoid draining the car battery to the level that would result in the car not starting.
