I second Harry's garage.

Mainly classics with performance orientation, but he also takes out modern cars, again usually more performance oriented but no less interesting because of that m

I also watch quite a bit of car throttle but I suspect it's a bit juvenile for the average reader here.

I also watch D-list on Facebook vids. Again a bit juvenile and also us focused.

I don't subscribe to any YouTube channels. As it is I spend way too much time on the computer, subscribing to anything is going to make that worse!. Far too easy to get sucked into YouTube 'rabbit holes'!.

If something pops into my head which I want to look up video's for, that is what I will do. Such as the thread the other day re the Citroen C6.

But that is as far as it ever goes, so far...............

I think South Main Auto could perhaps be summed up as: Toyota/Honda bad, everyone else worse

This could be because its true, bearing in mind that the focus is brokeness.

Decent car YouTube channels - suggestions? - Engineer Andy

Scotty Kilmer can be summed up as: Toyota/Honda good, everyone else bad.

Rather more naunced than that. He even says that Mazdas are much improved (I doubt if he sees many low-use Mazda diesels, given US car and truck owners actually buy them to use as intended by the manufacturer), and doesn't critcise KIA/Hyundai as much as he used to.

He does criticise Honda more than he used to (poor gearboxes on certain moels being one) and for more recent reliability issues than in the past.

Admitedly he is fond of Toyotas and Lexuses, as he is more of an 'A to B' driver than someone who really appreciates the performance and handling qualities other makes do far better than Toyota. But then he is a mechanic.

Decent car YouTube channels - suggestions? - Warning

I love Scotty Kilmer.

He bursts the bubble, that all German cars are wonderful. He is on the side of the frugal car owner.

It balances Jeremy Clarkson.

Great suggestions above for channels that entertain. I find that the road tests available on Youtube are just as informative in their way as what you read in the magazines.

I'd recommend (sorry, no time to provide links but all are available in Youtube's search engine):

Carwow (Mat Watson)

What Car (Doug Revolta)

Electrifying (Ginny Buckley, Tom Ford and Nicki Shields are all very good presenters)

I've also looked at and enjoyed Petrol Ped. If you're interested in EVs, Mr EV and Electric Vehicle Man are worth watching.

Many thanks for the additional suggestions everyone. I just watched Twin-Cam review a Humber Hawk, always had a soft spot for Humbers! Bob Flavin is also a good shout, I was very impressed by his review of the Toyota Camry, it was totally impartial, and he seemed to understand exactly what the car is intended to be in a way that UK (I assume he is in the republic?) reviewers seem to miss. Carwow is good as well, especially if you are buying new, Matt is very thorough.

A couple more which I just remembered:

Motorweek for the retro review section, less so the newer stuff youtube.com/user/Motorweek

I suppose it depends on what you want out of the channel - a laugh/fun, motoring news and commentary, car test drives/reviews, problem-solving and DIY, a combo of more than one?

I subscribe to Jason's Engineering Explained and Aussie 'auto expert' John Cadogan (both of whom have engineering degrees, John is also a journo of long standing), although John's coverage is more Aussie-biased, but is very informative, fun and blunt (maybe too much for some).

I also occasionally watch videos from US and Canadian YouTubers such as Scotty Kilmer, as well as from Savageese, The Straight Pipes (both of whom do regular test drives, often well before they appear in the UK for new cars) and sometimes from Kirk Kreifels, who speacialises in news and commentary about Japanese cars.

From time to time I've also watched CarWow reviews on YT, which to be fair aren't too bad.

Totally agree. I saw an Eastern European chap advertising his services as a mobile mechanic doing literally everything - on a Facebook group im in (not a LR group). Normally I get irritated when someone puts ads in a non-sales page but actually I thought bravo, now that is hard grafting! I love this channel. Sreten is a German bloke, and he will travel to far of places to buy up old BMWs and renovate them. I love his projects.

He even let slip. Here is a BMW from a time, when they knew what they were doing! :-)

He is frugal too!.

Just to add, Tyrrell's Classic Workshop's latest video is about the recommissioning of a 300SL Gullwing. If the exhaust note during the test drive doesn't make the hair on your neck (and a few other things) stand up, you need to check your pulse:

I suppose part of the reason I like South Main Auto. (The Acceptable Face of Redneck) despite it being mostly about newish cars, is that it reinforces my prejudices.

Who doesn't like that, eh?

Recent example. Installing a second hand seat because the "passenger detection and classification module" is bust and the replacement part is unobtanium.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Vlj1VfvPME

Has to PAY to reprogram for the replacement seat, (multiple times) initially using a fancy OEM scan tool which does not work, then using another fancy scan tool which luckily does.

There is also a hint at the end that this procedure may itself be illegal

So newish stuff (2014 in this case) really sucks.

I knew that, but its nice to have it confirmed every so often.

The snag with Youtube is that, even done well, (and its more often done badly) its a really slow and cumbersome way of conveying information.

Progress?

If it was a Youtube channel, this would be my top pick.

www.autospeed.com/

Its an online magazine format. Lots of punk-technology inspiration which AFAIK isnt available anywhere else,

Seems to have gone quiet lately but for now at least the archive is available, though of course it could disappear any time.

If it was a Youtube channel it would probably be a lot more popular, and a lot less useful.

Oh, mate, you're asking the right question! There are loads of wicked car YouTube channels out there. If you're into cars, you're in for a treat.

First off, you gotta check out "Car Throttle." These guys are absolute legends. They do all sorts of car-related content, from crazy car challenges to in-depth reviews, and their banter is on point.

Then there's "Mighty Car Mods." These Aussie lads are all about modding cars and making them cooler than ever. They've got some sick DIY videos and wicked builds that'll make you want to grab a spanner and get to work on your own ride.

And if you're into supercars and high-end rides, "Top Gear" is a classic choice. Yeah, we all know about the TV show, but their YouTube channel is packed with exclusive content, behind-the-scenes videos, and insane car reviews that'll make you drool.

Oh, and don't forget "Harry's Garage." This bloke knows his stuff when it comes to classic cars and he's got a wicked collection. His videos are like a treasure trove for any car enthusiast.
