Peugeot 207 - What's this around my exhust? - Paul Milburn

Hi all heard a rattle from my exhaust recently and had a look under and saw some kind of thin metal sheeting that looks like it has come loose (Lots of flooding here and since I drive at night a lot I sometimes hit larges puddles at speed, the force of the water could have done this maybe?) Images are linked on imgur.

I had my clutch done about a month ago it's nothing from that is it? Looks pretty new that bit of metal.

It’s the exhaust heat shield. It may have been pulled down by water as it is only thin aluminium. Needs to be refitted . If it’s missing, it will be an mot fail .

Thanks for that, Is it an expensive job? Doesn't look like it but I have no clue, maybe they to remove the entire exhaust ?

Are you sure it's an MoT fail - many cars have towbars which often require heat shields to be removed, and not refitted, to gain access to the bolt holes.

Another thing which can happen to 207 exhausts (like mine) is failure of the rearmost support, round the rear box. Not an MoT fail, but easily replaced DiY with a stainless one (E-bay).

Whether or not its an MOT fail, it is an essential part.
