Hi,
recent cold weather and reduced use due to the lockdowns finally finished off the battery, which was the original to the car.
I have the daughters car as well so left the Mondeo a few weeks until the weather improved.
Finally purchased a new battery and fitted it only to find that the starter motor turns all the time the battery is connected, without the key in the ignition. The car will start but the starter is still running. Is it a faulty ignition switch as a friend suggested or something else? I've done numerous searches on the internet for the problem without success.
Also could I drive it in that state just to get it to the local garage if I cant fix it my self or will it cause some damage?
The car has 120,000 miles on it and has had quite a few jobs done on it over the years but is very reliable, runs nice and always starts first turn. Having said that mounting bills will mean I should probably should be thinking of sending it for scrap (shame as last MOT it passed no problem but wont this time!) given its value, but for personal reasons I'd like to try and keep it for the next 12 months, any help/suggestions appreciated.
Many thanks.
