Can anyone tell me if the Renault Megane 1.5 DCI is chain or cam? Thanks

Going on the assumption that all Mercedes models are chain drive , this engine is fitted to some A class models . So I would say , chain .

Every 1.5DCi I've seen in a Renault has been a belt.

I think you’re right . It’s the 2.0 engine with a chain . The MB training video of a belt change on an A class model , shows engine needs to be removed . Not sure if it’s the same on the Renault.

That is crazy. The same engine has been used for years in many Nissan, Renault, and Dacia models many of which are smaller than an A class. It was fitted from about 2003 to 2010 in the K12 Micra, hardy had much space under that bonnet.

That's why all K12 Micra engines had to come out to replace stretched Timing Chains.

The main reason Nissan wouldn't take the blame and blamed the oil !

Just after the French interference/cost savings on purchasing/ design!

Never a problem on the K11's.

I’ve had a couple of belt changes on a Scenic 1.5dci with engine in situ, but with a top engine mount removed. That’s fairly cramped as an engine bay, the only car I’ve ever had to use a funnel to top up the oil, and I’m just grateful the brake fluid never needed adding to.
The later 1.6dci, presumably the engine used by M-B, is a chain.
