As a further to the previous post that escalated elsewhere, just a quick update on what’s happening in England from tomorrow.
If you want or need to buy a car before we reopen again, you can do. New and used dealers are allowed to operate a ‘click and collect’ or home delivery service. What’s not allowed is allowing customers on the premises to view or drive cars. Handovers can take place in a designated area that has to meet Covid requirements.
Dealer groups are offering the facility to reserve a car for a relatively small fee - typically £99. That’s not a deposit, just a reservation fee.
Service and parts are allowed to stay open, so if you have a service or MOT booked, it should go ahead.

At least that's something. As my car's annual service is approaching (end of the year), I'll need to find something to do whilst the service is being carried out (I rarely bother asking for a courtesy car).

Hopefully this time around the lockdown will last no more than the original stated period, so there shouldn't be a backlog of work that means I can't get it booked in.

I wonder how garages' stock levels are - not for cars, but parts and consumables, given I've noticed elsewhere there still is quite a shortage of certain goods - mainly things like mobile phones, computer equipment and home appliances where the items or electronics are made in China/the Far East.

I can remember a few years ago having to delay my car's clutch replacement because there was a shortage of OEM parts from Mazda's EU central warehouse facility in Belguim (I think). I wonder to what extent such problems exist at the moment.

I received an email from my dealer yesterday, to confirm the service and MOT booked for my car next week can go ahead as scheduled.

The delivery of my new car is still scheduled for 23rd November.

I've had emails from both the Skoda and Citroen dealers confirming that their workshops are functioning as normal.
