I've just recalled that in mainland Europe the diesel version termed the DCi/ DDiS is quite popular, it was never imported into the UK AFAIK.

The diesel was the Renault K9K @ 65 PS and later the Renault K9K 266 unit @ 86 PS.

One thing I was always curious about was the name. Did Suzuki want to name it Jiminy (as in Cricket) but hit a copyright problem? The list of quirky car names is huge but Japanese and French cars seem to feature frequently.
The Mitsubishi Starion was allegedly a mispronunciation/misspelling of Stallion, and the Nissan Moco (mucus/snot in Spanish) is anyone's guess. Mazda Bongo Friendee. Daihatsu Naked. Citroën Jumpy and Jumper. Renault Twizy.

According to an Australian website i was looking at, there does not seem to be a 'definitive' reason for the name, rather a few (conspiracy?) theories!.

First is simply that it is a mispronunciation of Jimmy, possibly following a trip by Suzuki management to Scotland. But as Jimmy is easier to pronounce than Jimny, probably unlikely.

Second is that it is a misspelling of Gemini.

Third is that it is a mash up of the words Jeep and Mini.

Fourth is that it comes from the Jiminy Cricket character in the Disney film version Pinocchio. Because the character was a small, smart, safe persona (but apparently in the 1883 original story, Pinocchio kills Jiminy Cricket!).

Postman Pat was the WagonR joke - loads of cartoons and photo montages all around the workshops when I was there doing a service course in the nineties!
