Grand C-MAX 2015 2.0L diesel - Diesel issues - martintheold

Our CMax 2.0L seems to have fuel issues. Firstly the fuel guage seems unreliable, secondly when putting the nozzle into the tank there is a startling release of pressure, and thirdly there seems to be a noticeable smell of fuel while driving. It runs well enough as far as I can tell, but something seems amiss. Any ideas would be gratefully received, thanks.

I would certainly check the fuel lines to the engine bay , especially around the filter and injectors . Pull off the plastic engine cover for a better view. Modern fuel systems are always under pressure, so don’t think you have a problem , unless you have issues filling the tank. As for the fuel gauge , I’ve seen these suffer corroded wiring to the tank sender/ module.

Thanks, I will look at these things. I got sprayed with diesel when I put the nozzle into the tank, that doesn't usually happen?

Sounds like there may be an issue with the tank venting system . Does this have a fuel cap or is this the cap less easyfill system? May be an idea to take it to a garage and let them check to see if there is any damage to the tank or pipe work.

No fuel cap. Thanks I will take it in, cheers, Martim.

Update, garage says no 4 injector is leaking, have booked it in, will cost about £150 (if the injector comes out easly!).

Dare say it is, but that doesn't obviously explain your symptoms

I'd look into the evaporative control gubbins and see if its clear.

I have the opposite problem, in that most of the evaporative control gubbins isn't there, Smell of fuel if the petrol station yoof overfills..Gentle cornering required for a few miles.

I have a cannister I took off an abandoned Toyota Corolla, which might fit, but havn't got around to doing anything with it.

It’s a diesel. Probably not a good idea to run it on petrol.

Don't diesels have evap control these days? Surprised. I just assumed...which of course one should never do.

Clearly the fuel is less volatile, but OTOH it is a petrochemical and probably not especially good for the environment, likely contributing to ozone and photochemical smog.

I suppose relatively minor compared to diesels other emissions though.

I tried running it on petrol once, it didn't go well. Surprised to get a leaking injector after 25k miles. Never knew about evap control, but you're right diesels don't have them I'm told. Thanks for all the advice we'll see what happens.

It was the fuel spill pipe leaking apparently not the injector. Slightly cheaper to fix.
