Any - Old car tests - groaver

I've been lost in Thames TV world recently.

They have some hilarious car tests from the 70s with Tony Bastable involved in many along with Shaw Taylor giving us the background.

I particularly like this one where Tony finds a bit of waste ground to hammer a X 19.

They don't make me like they used to!

Brilliant design but it needed more power and better rust prevention. Or any rust prevention for that matter!

Big geeky fan of old top gear programmes from the 80’s and 90’s and I’ve a large collection of car magazines from the era. It’s a shame there’s no straight laced car shows on TV these days, there’s surely room for it alongside the entertainment of modern Top Gear.

SLO, are you interested in any Mazda brochures? I have some surplus, mainly from the early 21st century.

Appreciate the offer but I’m more interested in old copies of What Car, Diesel Car and Autocar. That said, I doubt the wife would be pleased if I added more to the junk pile.

Isn't 5th Gear on anymore?

I used to like Channel 4's "Driven". That had a section in it which led to the creation of Wheeler Dealers.

I think it's (5th Gear) on the freeview channel 'Quest' from time to time. Not sure if it's current or just repeats of the final episodes in recent years.

They certainly don't. Bertie's rust-bucket. Are there any left? Should've bought a TR7!

If you find other reviews on the site, Mr. Bastable drives cars like a madman!

They are actually quite funny and very much of their time.

Chris Goffey pops up in some. He looks about 25 still sporting a beard and moustache.

There's some interesting stuff on flickr

Given the fact there are millions of drivers in the UK and the choice of car make/model is bewildering, I am surprised there isn't a motoring programme on TV. A proper one I mean. Not the rag the tyres off, drive it over a cliff, set fire to it type of programme. It would probably be cheap TV to make which surprises me more that the programme makers have missed a trick. What with cooking, quizzes and reality TV all cheap this is an ideal format. If it is taken on I do hope they don't make as brain numbing as the former mentioned.
