Peugeot Partner 2009 - Peugeot Partner key re-chip, Peugeot wanted £200? - Lifeofbrian

So, my 89 year old father needs a ignition key re coding for his Peugeot Partner 2009, so he took it to a dealer and they told him that because the key is not a genuine one that it would be risky to recode this key as it may make both keys not work again? So they quoted him £200 for two new keys.

I'm no expert but it sounds like nonsense, what do you guys think?

I think they are correct. Why should they copy a copy . If it goes wrong in the future you’ll be very upset . New genuine keys will work as designed . If you want reliability, go for it. £ 200 sounds about right to me .

It's only one key that is not original. And why does it matter that the key is a copy, we're talking about the immobilizer chip, sorry if I didn't explain properly, or maybe you're still right, I may be getting confused. What do you think?

I’m all confused now . You have one original key , one clone key . What exactly are you wanting to do ?

Sorry. My dad has one original key and one not. The key that's not original needs the correct chip code to use in the ignition. Peugeot told him that because the key is not a genuine key that it would be risky to re code this key as it may make both keys not work again? So they quoted him £200 for two new keys.

Peugeot dealer quite rightly are not going to programme a dodgy key . Get 2 new keys done properly . That’s the best way forward.

There's a locksmith on the Peugeot forums who will cut and code Peugeot keys for over half that price.

If you have the key PIN code card that came with the car you can get a blank key online and then find someone local with Peugeot Planet to code it to your car.

And on most Peugeot's the key coding is a one-time thing. So I don't know what the dealer is saying about your second non genuine key.
