I was in London this afternoon in a Jag XJL on my way to work. I wasn't driving, I have a chap to do that for me. We were following quite a visible motorbike, which had to brake sharply when someone ran into the road. My chap stopped OK, but a Range Rover following us closely didn't stop and ran into the back of the Jag. Nobody was hurt (but I haven't been tested for whiplash yet) but there's damage to the Jag which I don't think will polish out. A bit awkwardly, the driver of the Range Rover sort of works for me as well. I don't know what the damage to the RR was.

Do you think that the insurers will deal with this as knock-for-knock, 50/50?

Your car stopped safely, the car behind didn't thus its 100% their fault.

They were clearly travelling too close, going too fast, not concentrating or all 3. If you find you have whiplash its possible the driver of the Range Rover could be charged with dangerous driving if you involve the police.

Also if you have whiplash (genuinely) you are 100% entitled to personal injury damages.

Don't worry, The Taxpayers will pick up the bill.

At least your driver stopped suddenly to avoid the pdestrian who wasn't looking as he ran into the road!

Just had a thought - it may not be as bad as it seems.

He's having a bit of paintwork done on another vehicle at the moment (£900k) and maybe if he can get the bootlid straightened the paint people would paint that while they're at the big job if he slipped them a few quid in cash?

Not a good look for the professional driver of the Range Rover, albeit accidents do happen I expect he will end up on desk-duties for a while.

I doubt it. They always drive nose to tail to prevent another vehicle nipping in and blocking the security escort. Sudden braking like that means a collision is likely, literally collateral damage. I'd be surprised if there was any change to policy.

Insurance not involved probably - whoever provides the the security will be a government department or agency. They post a bond surety so don't have to insure like us plebs.

The driver should have been ready to brake with his left foot, using that technique would have avoided the collision - assuming the Strange Rover has an auto box.

I need to get over there and do some driver coaching with some of these secret squirrel types!
