Youngrovergirl took out the Sportage for the first time today. She had to go to get "tested" at the drive through at the local hospital.
So my heart was in my mouth as she drove away, but returned safely with high words of praise for the Kia after the ZS experience...
I am not allowed out of the house for another 12 days minimum, as I spent the best part of the week in Intensive care being taken in in a poor way. Tested positive, and so far so good following treatment.

"... I spent the best part of the week in Intensive care being taken in in a poor way. Tested positive..."
I am very sorry indeed to hear this, ORB, but glad that you are out of ICU and back home.
A friend of mine (a couple of years younger than me) was not so fortunate and, two days later, we are trying to come to terms with it.

Glad to hear you are on the mend ORB!
So far (touch wood), it hasn't affected anyone myself or my wife know.

Glad to see you have improved and hopefully on the way to a full recovery. Hopefully you can find something, in addition to chatting to us lot, to keep your spirits up and amused in the coming days and weeks.
Glad your new car is working out well - something for you to look forward to when you're better.

Blimey - get well soon ORB. Hope you are soon able to drive the Kia Sportage.
Strange times we live in at the moment. Just used my Superb to shop/deliver for my 82 year old mother - first time I've been out in it for a while as I've been avoiding the bigger supermarkets(I don't feel safe) during this crisis and I've got some local shops that have proven to be invaluable and I can get things whilst on my Boris walk (I always carry a rucksack with me). It was lovely to have a drive and I must admit I took the round the bypass way back to get the engine properly warmed thorugh. Probably won't use it for a couple of weeks now as next weekend will be the turn of my wifes Panda. Very strange going from 15k miles a year to near zero!
Going forward when we start emerging from this Covid mess for me some things will change, presuming mr + mrs bigjohn come out of it intact:-
- I'll carry on using the local shops - to be honest they can be slightly more but somehow you don't spend more and it can be better stuff. Our local fishmonger, butcher and green grocer are brilliant.
- I'll keep on with the daily walk when not working - in addition to my usual daily swim - that I can't do at the mo.
- Invoke early retirement plans - and travel!!

I hope you are getting stronger every day.
Appetite returning and able to take a bit of interest in things around me.
There is till a ways to go, have breathing excercises to do, but able to wash and shave by myself today, managed to sit by bedroom window watching nothing happening in our little close...

Good luck with the recovery ORB. Was only thinking yesterday that you've been a little quiet.
SLO has been absent too unless I blinked and missed him. Hope he's ok.

Hope all is well ORB, wishing a speedy recovery.
Me, I’m fine, no Covid here but I have been a bit unwell for a few months with no diagnosis. Brain fog, obvious pulse in neck, stiff neck and shoulder but clear bloods and pressure ok. Can go running etc but just not been right and no one can figure why. I realise now isn’t the time to criticise the NHS but I’ve found them quite disinterested before this all kicked off so I switched GP practice to one that has taken a bit more interest. Hopefully all will reveal and I can go back to driving duties. I’ve been doing new driver training instead for my sins.

Scary times, I’m glad you’re shaking it off ORB. I’d just like to know what’s wrong, I’ve had every guess under the sun without proper testing in my opinion. 6 different docs and guesses from prostitis to heart conditions through anxiety and to lack of sleep. It’s all been a bit random. I’ve had a month of antibiotics which made me feel terrible, left me with a tight neck, tinnitus in my left ear, visible pulse in neck, weird tremor and unable to sleep the latter two of which I’m glad to say have improved. No idea what’s going on but with current situation everything non-emergency is closed down so it’ll be an age before I see anyone. Maybe swmbo has a voodoo doll of me full of pins somewhere.

Sorry to hear your absence has been through ill health. Hope you get a diagnosis soon.
"Maybe swmbo has a voodoo doll of me full of pins somewhere."
I think it may be the European car manufacturers clubbing together to knock your used buy recommendations on the head.

SLO - This sounds familiar to me from a few years ago except one that is missing, probably coming your way soon - "it's all in your mind".
After months (er over a year) of backwards and forwards to the doctors, yup including two rounds of antibiotics! - mine turned out to be me reacting badly to milk products. I remember when the penny dropped between me and a good doctor I latched onto - was leading up to christmas so didn't want to trouble him anymore but he was starting to suspect some sort of reaction. As it was top of the allergens list I tried giving up milk and gradually started to feel better but fully realised how much better when on Christmas day I couldn't resit Xmas pud and custard - and bang back to square one in minutes. Felt ill but happy that I'd nailed it. It used to sap the life out of me, cause my heart to flutter sometimes , at times it gave me tinitus , sometimes kept me awake and just felt "meh"
Looking back mine came after a major period of stress - looking after someone else who was seriously ill - mine hit after they finally were out of the woods.

Really sorry to hear that SLO. I was going to suggest some form of ME (I know nothing about it except that I've heard of it being diagnosed when all else failed) - but Big John's idea sounds a lot more possible. It could be an allergy to dairy products - or wheat or eggs or anything. If things are therwise on hold you could try giving up one type of food at a time and see if anything works.
And ORB, we all wish you a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear that both ORB and SLO are ill. Hope you are both better soon.

Yes, anxiety has been discussed and may be playing a part. I’ve had back pain for well over a year but the feeling unwell really coincides with changing to permanent back shifts at the end of last summer which left me typically getting between 4 and 6hrs sleep most days as I have to do the school run.
Read an article lately showing a lack of vitamin B12 can cause tinnitus and muscle pain plus the antibiotic I was on can hamper the body’s ability to absorb this so I’m taking a strong supplement and learning to relax more. It’s helping, the tremor has gone and the tinnitus has dropped substantially which means I can sleep better which in turn helps again. Neck and shoulders are still very stiff and sore though.
I did go to an osteopath around the time this all started for my ongoing back pain and she cracked my neck unexpectedly. I developed a sore neck soon after but it became really stiff after the antibiotic. I’ve mentioned it to every GP I’ve seen since. Had an X-ray but structure seems fine and they all refuse to accept that an antibiotic or anti-inflammatory could cause a stiff neck and a general feeling of being unwell despite loads of cases on t web. Maybe I’m just fighting against old age coming on.
Just gonna relax a bit and sleep more to see if it’s just lifestyle that’s making me feel like I’m 90.

Do you take vitamin D? My GP told me it was probably the only supplement necessary for most people, who don't really get enough sun in our northerly latitude. You'll get even less than I do, in Ayrshire IIRC.
Cheap enough, low risk, and you might need it anyway. Symptoms of a deficiency include general torpor and bone ache.

Funny you mention vitamin D - I take a calcium supplement to try and compensate for lack of dairy product and vitamin D to help my system absorb it.
I've generally been well since having a year or so of hell back in 2007 - however fast forward to the Covid situation and something has changed. Working from home I've ended up with more than an extra hour in bed every working day (no commute) and I have to say it's made rather a difference - to the better!

Dear SLO76,
I must make clear that I am not a doctor but your symptoms are not dissimilar to a friend who has recently been diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica. I suggest you check your symptoms against this condition and also fibromyalgia with "Dr Google".
Best wishes

Thanks for the tip, just had a look but not a match for the polymyalgia rheumatica but fibromyalgia has been mentioned but from my complete non expert point of view this is one of those things they diagnose people with when they can’t figure out what’s really wrong. I know a few people my age who’ve been diagnosed with it and all live unhealthy lives (smoking, overweight, no exercise) while I’m very active and eat well. A few articles relating it to a B12 deficiency and possibly Vitamin D as it’s more common up here in Scotland. Another interesting read was user reviews on the antibiotic which show several cases of long term side effects well after the drug was discontinued though NHS GP’s all flatly deny this. So many things it can be, could be minor or sign of worse. Truth will out in the end I guess.
