Ford S-max 2006 manual petrol - S-max start but then stalls - Owen Harvey

I have a 2006 ford S-max manual petrol.

The car starts but then stalls.

Once started, I press on the accelerator, but no revs and then the car stalls.

When I turn the ignition on, I am not hearing the fuel pump priming.

But if the fuel pump was busted, would the car start in the 1st place?

Looking at the pump, it looks fine, no burn or melting marks. I have not done a voltage check yet.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Easiest way to check pump is pull off the fuel line. Petrol should gush out as soon as you turn the ignition on.

Probably not the correct way of testing the fuel supply . Get yourself a pressure gauge and connect it into the fuel rail . This way will verify actual pressure .

Its the fuel pump terminal. there is a little bit of corrosion.

The pump is still good.

any idea on where I get get a new terminal?

The connector which connects to the to the fuel pump is a bit corroded, and one of the connectors has broken out of the plastic housing.

I'm finding it difficult to find a replacement part.

I'm afraid if I don't replace it, that it will eventually knacker the pump :0

Ford dealer can supply new fuel pump extension wiring harness. Runs from a multi pin connector on the chassis to the fuel pump module . From memory, around £40 . Just make sure the pin on the pump housing is clean and corrosion free.

Yeah, I came across that one, but it does not match what I have.

I have a 2006 (mk1?)

As I've mentioned in another thread, a petrol needs five things to run. If all of these five are good then there is no reason why it won't run.

1. A good supply of clean air.

2. A good supply of clean fuel.

3. Good compression.

4. Good HT spark at the right time.

5. A clear and unrestricted exhaust.

Consider all of these equally and take none for granted, most crucially No.5. If the engine is prevented from breathing out it will not be able to breathe in. A classic symptom of a blocked exhaust is the engine will start initially and then die. Or you will experience a loss of power.
