Fiat Punto Grande Sporting diesel - 5th & 6th gears problem - Geoffm

My daughters 2006 Punto ( six speed box ) 1st to second to third to forth all fine up into 5th and finally 6th no problem however coming out of 5th / 6th back into neutral she has to knock the gear stick into neutral,

Any ideas to the cause and the remedy greatly appreciated, I'm sure this is not the first time this issue has come up.

I would suspect that the clutch is not disengaging fully.

b*****, I was hoping for an issue with the two cables didn't think it maybe a clutch issue given gears 1 - 4 and into 5 & 6 work smoothly.

I think if it were a clutch problem , the issues would occur in all gears . More likely to be the shifter cables in trouble or worn linkage.

Totally agree. Had it with a Golf, took the bloke at the local gearbox specialist 10 minutes of fiddling to get all the gears working (only had 5 in that). After 110,000 miles parts had simply "bedded in".

Thanks for the help, MOT due soon so going to ask our local garage to have a quick look.
