Afternoon all/

Long shot but thought I'd chance my arm on here!

I get a horrendous screeching sound when the steering goes full lock at low speed and noticed the belt stopping and then restarting.

Belt slipping. Either:

Re-tension belt.

Replace belt (how old is it?)

Don't use full lock at low revs.

Thanks for that.

Belts were done a few months ago and apparently the belt is self tensioning.

I try not to use full lock but cant avoid it when parking really

The belt is losing grip . Could be one of the pulleys / rotating components is seizing up or you have the incorrect belt fitted , too long .

Did the old belt slip? Do you have the old belt? If so compare it with the new one, or even re-fit it.

Thanks for the replies.

Old belt got thrown away is it was due a change and I didnt previously have any issues.

I am thinking one of the pulleys is at fault but just guessing.

Thinking logically here , if it was ok on the previous belt , then I would think the new belt is wrong . Correct length is critical here.

Belt was a brand new genuine one fitted by a respected mechanic and it was ok until now, strange one but then again it's French!

Could the mechanic had, erm, greasy hands when they handled the new belt, perhaps contaminating it?

I once had an alternator re-built that suffered the same, caused all sorts of problems. When I stripped it you could actually see greasy fingerprints inside. The slip rings needed a good clean to get it functioning correctly.
