MG ZS 2017 - Are Cars sentient? Now it's going... - oldroverboy.

I am sure there will be a few raised eyebrows, but today going to and returning from the Gym, No warning lights.

Does it know that it's going?

In its defence it hasn't been all that bad but the stream of niggles proved too much for me.

Dealer has been magnificent. MGmotorsuk don't speak to owners.

No but computers and printers and internet connections certainly are!

Daughter came home a short time back to use facilities here to put her portfolio together for an upcoming job interview.

I checked everything was working, plenty of toner for the printer and spare, copier function working. Laptop charged, virus checker up to date etc - what could go wrong?

Nearly everything. The broadband went down, so we had to do everything by sharing my phone's data allowance.

The printer just packed up and died - thank goodness for Amazon's next day delivery! It just meant setting it up and downloading drivers over a slow 4g connection.

My wife and son are murder for giving life to our cars. They all have to have a name, currently it’s Pablo Polo and Terrence Toyota. All fine and well until one has to upgrade, then the two of them get upset. Does save a few quid though.

Audrey the Audi has been in my possession 8 years and thanks to SLO I'm finding out how long she will keep going.
The roof lining is held up with upholstery staples and the air con is bust and my mechanic says it's worth £175 but I can't bear to part with it !

Go and talk to a motor trimmer. Roof linings are not that expensive. I got mine done a few years back and it didn't break the bank. Worth doing if you intend to keep the car in the long run. It is even possible to do it yourself if you are reasonably handy.

Yes it does - I have had lots of cars, starting in the '60s/'70s which had been over pampered and maintained for years and never given a moment's trouble but which have (eg) rusted away, and as soon as the "going" decision has been made have .. refused to start, refused to run cleanly, doors won't lock, wipers pack up, etc etc...

To misquote Jessica Rabbit - "

I trained as a teacher many years ago. I didn’t go into the profession, but that’s another story. During one of my school practices, I got a class of juniors to write a story from the point of view of a sentient car. It really fired their imaginations and produced some amusing results, describing considerate drivers, less considerate drivers, days when they really didn’t feel like starting or running properly and so on.
