Who would have thought that the new facelifted models with the "starfield" front grille would have sold so many..659 EV's delivered..

I believe they are aiming for 30,000 sales in 2020.

That said my TCS/SCS lights are back on....intermittently, Have called dealer to say will come in without stopping engine next time.

Gearbox groans pulling away when cold..

Door handles all sticking...

Seat bolster clip fell off again...

Always interesting to read about how your MG is getting on, something about bargain buys with long warranties that’s particularly fascinating! Saw a few of the larger MG HS in SE Asia, all of them fully specced with autobox, wind deflectors, blacked out windows, fake quad chrome tipped exhausts etc. driving round in the blistering heat, the cooling system and AC better be up to par!

Let me just step in here... Sell it and buy a Honda Civic, Mazda 3 or Toyota Auris instead. A decade old my old Toyota is and it has zero issues. Only thing that’s failed to date is a bulb.

Forgive me if I'm mistaken, SLO ... but it does rather seem that the your answer to virtually every question that arises here is to buy a Civic, Mazda 3 or a Toyota.

Ouch!! firm but fair I guess but I do value SLO's advice.

ORB sell the b***** thing while it still has 'some' value, bought my mokka within a few months of your MG...absolutely zero faults/gripes/rattles etc etc........

Or, I might just have some fun and deliver it to the Marylebone HQ on trailer, filled to the max with Horse Manure....

They may be good but our Golf TDi was perfect for 10 years, Focus TDCi 1.6 perfect for 12 years, Focus Mk 1 1.8 petrol perfect for 12 years and a Focus Mk 2 petrol perfect for 11 years.

Just looked on the DVLA MOT website and the 1998 Mk Focus 1.8 petrol seems to be alive and well, 150,000 miles and very few advisories.

There are good alternatives to the frequently recommended jap cars. Nad having driven the jap alternatives I know which I prefer.

All well and good, but in consideration is now a Vitara, or a Tuscon.

Fed up of being a beta tester.

Can’t fault either.

You have rather changed your tune rather quickly ORB wasn't that long ago you had nothing but praise for it faults and all ( couple of weeks?). That said I can understand your frustration, a Vitara or crossland are on my list although I will wait until the mokka reaches her third birthday....

Two very different cars. The Tuscon has better trim and is considerably larger. I have the Tuscon 1.7TDI Premium DCT and a mate has the Suzuki Vitara SZ-5.

The Tuscon has a better interior but I reckon the Vitara autobox will out last it.

I have also had a failure with mine.Failure to accelerate intermittently, even going down a hill then total power loss. The dealer couldn't replicate the issue but when it went in after the total power loss and armed with a video of the failure to accelerate they involved Hyundai UK's technical support to fix the issue and a few days later my car was returned with a new part fitted and has been fault free since.

Many a true word spoken in jest.....I think most of us know why SLO's response is predictable - because much the same question is being asked (quite reasonably, as that's one of the things the forum is for) by a succession of punters looking for a reliable used car with less money to spend than they'd like. Once again, many thanks SLO for all the trouble you take.

If a 10-year-old Toyota has given less trouble (or indeed none at all) compared with a nearly-new MG, the conclusion is obvious. Sadly, it seems that the Chinese factory is knocking out MGs without due regard to quality control. I'm not sure if they're still being checked at Longbridge - but even if they are, that's hardly an endorsement.

Autocar this week has a long-term report on an MG ZS electric - intermittent refusal to charge and several creaks and rattles.

If this becomes a reputation, it won't help residual values. Fortunately ORB had the good sense not to buy one of these new.

It"seems" that the early ZS produced in factory "G" are not as well made,

LOTS of problems with the 1.0 litre 3 cyl turbo and the PPF...

Lots of complaints about door handles sticking.

No nothing is checked in Longbridge any more...

Lots of reports on the MG forums about charging issues on the EV..

I'm not overfussed about it, Just a bit fed up and have told my lovely dealer so.

They are willing to fix it....and they have been really good too.

Our local (independent) Suzuki and Kia dealer is about to add MG to the mix after cutting ties with Peugeot and Vauxhall (authorised repair centre). When i was in there the other day looking at the Swift, the salesman was trying to get me interested in the ZS as a Motability car.

Orb I'm still running my 67 Vitara S. 25k miles no issues. The new ones have upped the game on the interiors too. The interior on mine is ok. It really doesn't bother me. I drive it not spend hours lovingly caressing the dash. In any event I have both the 1 litre ( in a Swift) and the 1.4 Boosterjet and I really like them. Go do a test drive, see what PX they offer you. Don't know the dealer in Colchester only Sarfend.

I like the looks of the MG suv and I think you get a lot of car for the money. When you read of some of the problems that happen on more up market cars I can see why you are quite relaxed about yours. As you say you are having a good response from your dealer which is reassuring and it is good to read your reports as I relate them to MGs I see on the road

SLO's "automatic" response is sound and based on experience..and I always give pretty much the same response to the same questions.!

Japanese...Petrol...and in my case..Toyota.!

ORB, "LOTS of problems with the 1.0 litre 3 cyl turbo and the PPF..."

I'm interested in that comment as, as far as I'm aware, it's the same engine fitted to my Astra. No problems with mine and no reports of problems on the Astra Forum.
