Fiat 500 - Brake pads/disc replaced, brake pedal puff/hiss? - Jd2

Hi,

Nightmare MOT passed 2 weeks ago. Brakes grinded on girlfriends car this week and now pads and disc need replacing. Paid £185 to replace which seemed a lot. Quikfit didnt pick up on mot that the pads were completely worn.

Problem: driving off after replacement pads and discs the brakes are making a puffing noise when pushed in and also when it it released.

Never had this problem before.

I'm taking it back to the garage tommorow morning.

1. What is the issue, did they not connect the brakes properly?

2. Is it dangerous to drive like this?

3. Can i expect them to fix it for the price I paid. It never made the noise before and as soon as worked on it has started.

Please advise

James

Brake pad depth is not part of MOT test, just brake effectiveness. Some testers will look at pads if they can be seen through the wheels, but they don't have to.

Noise like air whoosh from the brake pedal isn't unusual, I have certainly heard it on cars I have owned and its from the brake servo which works from vacuum when the engine is running.

If brakes weren't working you would quickly realise it. By all means take it back and get them to do an efficiency test, but all may be normal.

Brake pad depth most certainly is part of an mot test with a minimum requirement of 1.5 mm of friction material. Replacing discs and pads should be a fairly straightforward procedure, so I don’t quite understand what they have done wrong . Don’t forget it takes around 100 miles for the brakes to bed in .
