Listening to Sir Greg Knight on Radio 4 today. He has a bill in parliament which will hopefully provide some clarity of thought for the parking companies and force them to be reasonable when the circumstances warrant it. He cited two cases of blatant disregard for any circumstances.

Firstly, a doctor drove into a pub car park to attend an injured woman. He later received a 'fine' from a parking company for using the car park. When informed of this they insisted he pay. Secondly, a tradesman needed to wash his van. He bought a token at a filling station and waited in the queue for his turn, washed his van and left. He received a 'fine' for overstaying his welcome. Again, they ignored the situation and insisted on payment. This is despite the intervention of the pub landlord and filling station operator. The parking company's contract is with the brewery and Shell respectively. How can these companies, in all conscience, act this way? It beggars belief and demands strong action to curtail their sphere of operation and means of extracting money from people.
