Well, its a theory,and you could be right, but I'm not confident you are correct, because
(a) I THINK you can get electrochemical corrosion in the abscence of dissolved oxygen
(b) I THINK there is some oxygen access to the system via the overflow reservoir.
If water can get into the brake fluid,(and I know it can) it doesn't seem too much of a stretch that oxygen can get into the cooling system
I did leave it for a few years after I bought the car and it was pretty rusty when I finally drained it.
Its certainly true that I don't need antifreeze per se, and there is some stuff on sale (SONEX) that claims to be just an anti-corrosion treatment, but I dunno if its any good.
