If you had it disabled it would need to be reported to your insurer, who might load your premium but would more likely refuse to cover you as a result.

If you didn't tell them and the worse happened, and they find out (as they would) the system had been deliberately disabled, you could be financially reduced to potless for life as a result of the insurer washing their hands of you.

Surely if the warning light keeps coming on then there is a fault with the system that your BMW Mini dealer should be able to diagnose & fix.

A fiberoptic cable and sensor is located behind the front bumper. If the sensor detects a deformation of the bumper (even if no damage is visible afterwards), depending on speed, the hood will pop up (very expensive) or the system will disable itself.

Most likely either the fibreoptic sensor is bad, or the electrical connection is either shorted or broken.
