Jaguar xtype 2.0D Estate - strange clutch issue - JPH6969

Hi All,

Strange one this. Had the clutch changed a couple of years ago and everything was fine, since had the master cylinder replaced more recently this year when I couldn't get the gears to change at all.

More recently I have had the strange scenario where first thing in the morning I cannot get the car into gear at all unless the ignition is off. If I turn off the engine then I can get it into any gear easily. I put it into first, hold down the clutch and then start the engine. By doing this I can then get the car to move and by getting it warmed up can then start to get it into the other gears. Once warm there is no problem changing gears at all.

I have had the hydraulic system checked for leaks - none found. The hydraulic fluid has been changed and bleed twice, first time partially second time complete system as the fluid had some discolouration.

I am now stumped and would appreciate any thoughts as to what it might be?

Was it a good quality clutch that was fitted? Was the pressure plate also replaced or just the friction plate?

It could be that the pressure plate isn't releasing properly, or the gearbox oil is too heavy and you're getting some drag from cold.

pressure plate as mentioned could have weak fingers that partially release when the pressure is applied, either its original or replaced and faulty, needs strip down, sometimes even release bearing is left in rather than replaced to cut costs so it would be an idea to check what was replaced

It should have been complete replacement
