VW Golf MK8 - gordonbennet

Oh look another facelifted identicar, maybe its got more camp leds than the last one, might be able to distinguish it from the millions of other cloned hatchbacks on the road.

VW Golf MK8 - SLO76
Looks quite nice to me and VW aren’t making the mistake Honda are planning, they will offer a full range from 1.0 petrol through turbo diesel, hot hatch and electric. Pricing will be the usual utter nonsense to push everyone into a PCP or lease but for used buyers the Golf will continue to make sense.
VW Golf MK8 - Lee Power

It's another Golf.

People will buy it because it's a Golf & it has that magic VW badge that means quality ( stop sn*****ing ) dont worry as people will then be complaining on here when it goes wrong & VW either cant fix it or wants lots of money as sorry thats not covered under warranty.

Full of new tech "driver aids" and gizmos from what I am reading and as far as I am concerned a complete turn off! Self driving on "wide roads" at speeds of up to 130 provided you keep one hand on the wheel to name just one.

VW Golf MK8 - Xileno

I like the back of it, a simple but effective update and still obviously a Golf. I'm not sure about the front, it looks as if it could be almost any make. I would seriously consider one, a hybrid if they do one in the MK8.

VW Golf MK8 - Avant

The report suggests that there will be 'mild hybrid' tech attached to the petrol engines, and the plug-in hybrid GTE. No pure EVs as the ID-3 will fill that role.

A plug-in hybrid would suit my needs perfectly, but not while they're still thousands of pounds more expensive than the petrol equivalents, as the previous Golf GTE was.

VW Golf MK8 - Engineer Andy

Unless and until any of the VAG DSG dual clutch boxes' problems are gone, this car and its stablemates will be off the list for my next car. That and the huge list of faults generally on VAGs.

VW Golf MK8 - daveyjp

The mild hybrid tech is probably needed to cover the flat spot issues on the latest VAG petrol engine which has turned into another nightmare.

"That and the huge list of faults generally on VAGs."

It does beg the question, what's up with VAG these days? We've had several in the family but a long time ago, in the days when the engineering was simple. All were excellent. We've not had one of the newer models, I admit.

Maybe with the internet, we only get to hear of problems?

Totally statistically invalid of course, but from the people that I meet during my work and social life I get to hear about far more problems with German cars than French and yet general perception would lead one to believe the reverse.

Wouldn't it be great to get hold of all manufacturers' warranty repair costs. Highly confidential of course...
