Parked car - Deadshot

Hello, just looking for some advice re the following situation. Caught a parked car whilst trying to park in a multi-storey, nothing major just some scuffed paint few scratches, waited a short while in case anyone returned to the car but nothing. Decided I needed to leave a note so went into the hotel which was attached to the car park to get pen and paper, Google what I needed to actually put in the note and returned. However on returning the other car had gone.

My question is regarding what else I need to do now.? Particularly anything from contacting the police about it. I don't have a number plate for the other vehicle as was going to write it down when I left the note. I don't want to assume everything is Ok and then get anything from the police regarding having failed to stop because I wasn't able to leave any details etc but equally don't want to go contacting them if I don't need to.

Many thanks in advance for any help on the matter.

If you are unable to provide your details at the time, under the Road Traffic Act (S.170) you are obliged to report the incident to the police as soon as possible and in any case within 24 hours. You can do so online.

If you don’t and the other car owner goes to the police you may find yourself receiving a “request for driver’s details” from them accompanied by a "notice of intended prosecution" for failing to stop/report and careless driving. They don’t usually prosecute in these circumstances (unless you fail to reply) but it is the method they have of discovering the driver’s details so as to pass them on to the Third Party.

A bit if grey area here I think. You certainly had the intention of doing the right thing. If you recorded the details of the other vehicle then report this to the police. I don't know how long you have before action can be brought against you, but I suspect plod has bigger fish to fry. No one hurt, no one kicking up a rumpus. I have noticed scratches on previous vehicles of mine and never figured out where or how they came to be there. Most just drive away not suspecting a problem has occurred. If the other party does spot it they may not even equate it to your car or that car park. A waiting game for you my friend. Good luck. Cheers Concrete

I reckon you may have got away with it. 'Swings and roundabouts', how often have you come back to your car to find undeclared damage? How often will you in the future?

I wonder if there were any cameras about.........................................................?
