Dacia Sandero - Split rear seats not so useful - Carrot

Hi.

Owner of a 19 plate Sandero Comfort. I notice the rear seat backrest splits 1/3 and 2/3, but the seat is one piece. Not much use if you need to fold the seat forward to carry a large load and have a passenger in the rear. The Logan and Duster have full split seats, so why not the Sandero?

Probably just to cut costs. I know the Comfort isn't the 'bottom of the range', but it is only one step up the ladder and still very much a cheap car. The Duster, while obviously cheap for that type of car, is deemed expensive enough to include this feature, and as for the Logan, as this is essentially just a Sandero estate, and therefore going to be bought by folks looking for more load capacity/practicality, it was deemed sensible to include the split base here too.

The Comfort is top of the range. Mine has reversing sensors and rear cameras. All three models are essentially the same car up to the B pillar. You'd think they would standardise components to save on cost.

They probably have. If you were to check where the seat base fittings on the Logan is, i'd be willing to bet yours has the same. But it still costs more to put a split base than a single piece. In theory, if you were that bothered about it, you could probably fit the two piece base from a Logan to your car.

But while i may have been wrong about where exactly in the Sandero range the Comfort fits, it is still a cheap car. And that one piece seat base is one of the reasons why. Put it like this, the Comfort is the top of the range Sandero and list prices start at £8995. This is £4625 less than the list price of the very cheapest, bottom of the range Renault Clio.

Dacia Make more profit by having the least amount of activities to build a car; 1 piece install of a seat is cheaper (product and install labour) and faster (assembly) than a split seat.

Most manufacturers are going the same way; Nissan drastically reduced a lot of the intricate cubby holes and storage items on the Note II compared to the original Note to reduce assembly cost and time; the downside is the newer model was less functional than the original.

Very big discounts available on Clio, not so big on Sandero, so gap not that large.

The price you see is the price you pay with Dacia. Interesting about the Note.

Some discount is available on Sandero, but not the massive discounts you can get on Clio.

I'd read this refers to the Renault Sandero which is marketed overseas.

Neighbour works at Renault/Dacia dealership, confirmed all new Sandero (not a further facelift) due next year.
Also mentioned Dacia might be bringing out a a small SUV to sit under the Duster; no idea on a name or what it’s based on.
