Focus 6000CD radio, a different problem. - timby

My 6000CD radio stopped working after I fitted a new battery, I entered the code but it still would not work.

On checking I found that the VID is not in there, the hand book explains how to enter the 16 character VIN number.

Problem is that my VIN has 17 characters, I have tried removing 1 from both ends leaving 16 but that does not work.

The CD player works so I am wondering if the radio is broken.

My VIN number is OK I have checked on the internet.

I don’t know what to do next.

Surely if the CD player works, then it’s not a code issue. Sounds like the radio is faulty.

I assume that Elekie is right in saying that if the CD player works there's a separate issue with the radio. However, just in case - do you have the serial number (not the VIN) so we can check the code is correct? Or is this definitely a code you have successfully used before?

Very interesting question - I had to look that one up!

According to my Ford 6000CD manual the VID number isn't essential for the radio to operate. It's merely a method of the radio being able to be identified by the Police in the event of it being stolen. I've certainly never entered a VID number into any radio I've ever encountered.

From that I would deem than it isn't actually essential to enter the entire 17 digits either.

Yes, as FP correctly states, what you do need to check is the radio's serial number in order that we can check the radio code. I'm pretty sure you don't need to bother with the VID number in connection with the radio, that is, unless you wish to use the identification feature.

OK., thanks for your input everyone.

I am sure that the code is right as the radio was previously working.

I had assumed that the VIN code was necessary too.

Before I get another from Ebay, I am wondering about the arial as I can hear hissing, I guess I can try a length of wire in the socket?

First question, does it display frequency/ channel? Usual problem on these is that AM works but FM doesn’t . If this is the case , then the aerial is ok , but the radio is goosed .

I'd make sure the aerial plug hasn't actually fallen out.

I have had another investigate this morning, it does it display frequency/ channel and searches.

I have unplugged the lot and started from the beginning again.

A wire in the aerial socket makes no difference.

So it looks like I am off to search on Ebay for a replacement.

Thanks again for your help.
