Samsung - ITV Player - Nigan

Hello everyone,,

I have a Samsung "smart" TV which has an internet connection and is fabulous for watching programmes via the built-in apps (iPlayer, More4, etc.), however, the ITV player is (and always has been) totally useless!

The programmes load and the advertisments play exactly as expected, but the acual programs stream in slow-motion until they crash and the next advertisment comes on, (again in perfect clarity).

Anyone had similar problems with ITV player and were you able to fix it?

Sounds like it needs a software / firmware update. Our Samsung TV did this years ago, but I can't remember exactly what I did to resolve it. Google is your friend in this case, it shouldn't be very difficult.

On a side note BBC iPlayer stopped working on the same TV last year due to some contractual crap with Samsung (newer TV's should be OK).

If after updating software, hardware bios etc etc it still does not work invest in an Alexa USB stick - £40 or so but special offers it can be less.

2nd hand ones at CEX seem to be OK according to a neighbour who traded in some old kit and bought one.

Assume you mean an Amazon Fire stick?

Out LG smart TV needs fairly frequent updates and retunes. The update should be automatic as it is connected to the router via an ethernet cable. The retuning is a bit of a nuisance. It does it automatically and takes about 3 minutes. I am told it is because broadcast frequencies change to accommodate more channels. Maybe that would work for your Samsung. The menu should point you to tuning or retuning manually or automatically. Good luck.

Incidentally does anyone know how to download the UKTV Play App onto an LG TV? I have tried but failed. Not having access to a 12 year old for expert guidance I am lost!!

If you can get it you should be able to download from the LG app site in the menu, LG usually tell you before download if its compatible with your TV, some apps are not compatible with most LG standard tvs unless you have an OLED or UHD 4K tv as they don't have enough memory, its reserved for updates and specified apps

Thank you bolt. Our TV is about 2 years old so not too outdated!! I had the good fortune to receive a visit from my nephew with his 11 year old. Between them they downloaded the app in no time. Works a treat too. Watched an episode of Inspector George Gently last night on it. TBH I was perfectly happy with our Panasonic 47" Plasma, all it needed was a magic box to smarten it up, but SWMBO wanted an LED so we got the LG. I only just managed to talk her out of a curved screen TV in John Lewis. Seemed such a waste to me. I gave the Plasma to a friends daughter and it is still going strong. Fashion/Gadget victim again!!!
