Hi all

Had an interesting incident last night with my car, I had a warning beep and a "Transmission Error - Check Handbook" message pop up on the dash. I pulled over and then gently revved the car to try to pull away but the car jumped and stopped (as if the car had stalled in gear), I tried a few times but the same thing kept happening so I switched the engine off, waiting for a few seconds and then switched it back on again and pulled away with no problem in both automatic and semi-auto.

This issue happened a few times and always when I was about to stop in gear (either mode) so to overcome this I cruised in neutral when I came to a junction, stopped and put it into gear and drove off with no issues and it only seemed to happen after the car had warmed up after a good drive out.

Does anyone have any idea what the issue could be, seen something similar on TV about an Audi and its tiptronic gearbox, they changed the gearbox oil and cleaned the filter which cured the problem. We have not changed any of the oils (gearbox or engine) in the last 4 years. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, cheers Mark.

I very much doubt this a a proper auto gearbox . I suspect it is a robotic automated manual with a conventional clutch and gearbox. Don’t think it’s an oil problem, more likely to be a clutch or shift issue

Hi Mark, I have exactly the same problem. The mechanic replaced the brushes on the selector but the same fault still occurred.

I suspect it a heat issue on a wiring harness or a component in the electronics but cannot determine , with accuracy where the problem lies.

Did you ever fix your problem, I would love to know?

Hi Alan

sorry not got back sooner but busy house hunting etc, anyway changed gearbox oil and no change it still alarms with Transmission Error and then stalls in gear but only after engine/gearbox is well warmed up, not sure what to do next any ideas/suggestions or have you had any luck with harness/electronics suspicion?
