Not sure if I've been had by my dealer buying a 1 month old Touran 1.6 SE Family?

I collected it today from a Volvo dealer one month old with 800 miles on the clock, one previous owner.

While checking through the documentation I noticed that the vehicle data sticker loose inside the owners manual was not for the car I was purchasing but for a different Touran. I pointed this out to the salesman and he took it out and nothing more was really said. I know I should have investigated further at the time but with checking everything else I didn't think.

Anyway, back home this evening, I notice that there is no information in the service book recorded for a pre delivery inspection. The book is blank, no sticker, no dealer stamp or first reg date. Its as if its a replacement book.

Reading online tonight, I find out that there should be a vehicle data sticker in the spare wheel well, but there isn't.

Should I be concerned?

Will the remainder of the VW warranty be valid with no PDI info?

Will a VW dealer be able to give me the details of the PDI if there was one carried out and also a print of the vehicle spec in the absence of the sticker?

I can't even identify the paint code although I believe its reflex silver.

The chain that I bought the car from do have VW franchises but this was from a Volvo dealership so not part of the Das Welt approved used program.

Finding a car with the PDI section of the service book filled in is quite rare. It’s unlikely it hasn’t been done and as long as you service it at a VW main dealer your warranty will be fine. Relax.

Thanks for the reply.

Not so worried now.

As SLO76 said, this is quite normal and I wouldn't be concerned either.

Incidently I just checked the service book for my pre reg Toyota Yaris, my vehicle details haven't been filled in either.

Shame you didn't keep that sticker as evidence, but as a less than one-year-old car, you should have the original manufacturer's warranty - unless of course it's not exceeded the warranty mileage?

I wonder why a one-month-old VW Touran was for sale at a Volvo dealership - especially if the chain also has VW dealerships. Did they explain?

They told me it was group stock and quite often they move cars around.

I didn't think at the time this was an issue.

It's very common practice at Arnold Clark to see pre reg cars being sold at a different franchise within their network.

As far as I know any preregistered car or demonstrator has to be three months old before being sold on. I suspect getting the chains Volvo dealer to sell it avoids VAG finding out what they are up to. Was the previous owner the VW dealer? If you need any leverage on the dealer tell them you are going to phone VW at Milton Keynes about it.

Car was registered to an individual at a private address in Essex. Looked on street view and its a flat in a residential street.

Had 800 moles on the clock when I got it.

If they have broken the 3 month rule selling it via one of their volvo dealerships rather than VW does that affect me in any way?

If the car is free from accident damage, is in good condition and drives with out any faults appearing, then you've nothing to worry about.

A month old car with 800 miles on it won't have been due any services. Your warranty will be intact.

Just enjoy you new car.

Entirely possible that someone did buy it then simply didn’t like it or they fell ill. I bought a two month old Honda Accord in a private sale for £8500 in 2003 when the new owner suddenly died, the list price was over £15k and dealers were flogging pre reg examples at £12,495. My dad had to part exchange his new Volvo 240 GLT for a 440 turbo after a couple of months because my mother hated it. I wouldn’t worry as long as there’s no faults or poor paint repairs that excluded it being sold as an approved used VW.

I used to think the same.

However my current car had been registered to the Toyota dealer for only 15 days, when I took delivery of it. The log book recorded me as the new keeper, when the car was 15 days old. I bought the car from the Toyota dealer.

Having the car number prior to delivery (and having only paid the deposit), I checked the vehicle enquiry site and found that the car was on a SORN. Of course I had to tax the car at the dealers before driving away.

Maybe the 3 month rule disappeared when the buyer became responsible for taxing the car at the time of sale.

A previous 2004 Clio was 2 months old when I bought it, but the the dealer didn't advise me that the log book would only come through when the car was 3 months old. The log book recorded me as the keeper when the car was exactly 3 months old. The DVLA say that it may take up to a month for the log book to come through, so you're not aware what is happening until you have all the paperwork anyway.. These cars were sold with the balance of road tax remaining (can't do that now).
