Folks that put those types of plate on their car working on the basis that the Police are far too understaffed and overworked to bother about such a trivial thing.

But i'm pretty sure it is illegal and would fail an MOT.

Such a minor spacing gap would hardly even be noticed even if you did happen to pass a copper remotely interested, its still obvious what the plate should be...though not being an expert in anything at all i wonder if ANPR readers would recognise it.

Yes it might fail the MOT but IMO chances of a nick doubtful unless an ANPR or camera van triggered a human to check it out.
