Festival of the Unexceptional? - johnnyrev
Has anyone been to the Festival of the Unexceptional at Claydon Estate today? I’ve just got back having had a good time looking at some quite rare run of the mill stuff, and chatting to owners. My favourite was 1980 Datsun Cherry (my Mum had one), I don’t think I had seen one since my Mum’s.

My brother also came, he enjoyed the Allegro’s as he had a ‘coupe’ (2 door, were they ever called coupe?!) and we worked out that when he had to sell it on as the rust was terminal, it was only about 8 years old! His current Fabia is 16 years old and lasting a bit better!

I would love to go to it, but as is the case with most events like that, they are just so far away from North East Scotland!. We have a transport museum about 30 miles away and one of the regular events they do is called 'how many left'. This is not too far away in spirit as it is about cars which were once very popular but are nearly extinct now. But compared to the Festival of the Unexceptional, the number of vehicles attending would be pretty tiny!.

One of these years i'll get to it!

Wasn't aware of this event, so thanks for pointing it out. Enjoyed reading about it and looking at the piccies on the net.

I’m in Windsor right now at Legoland and was desperate to sneak away to see it. Sadly it was not to be thanks to my poor planning - I forgot it was on to be honest and didn’t make time for it.

I love to see these old run-of-the-mill motors preserved. I’ll spend far longer looking over a base model Ford Sierra, Bluebird, Montego, Carina or any other mass market but near extinct car than the rows of E-Type Jags and Porsche’s you’ll see at a typical classic car show.

A very nice 1988 Volvo 360 GLT for sale at one near me a while back almost had my hand in my wallet but I know I wouldn’t get the time to enjoy the hobby. It wasn’t a great car but my dad had several 340’s and I always wanted a GLT. That or a 480 ES or 440 GLT both cars that were again very unexceptional.
