What kind of camera for car vandalism? - Warning

I have owned several cars and it happens I come back to find that somone has bumped into them. I have had windscreen wiper stolen.

I recall a story, where a guy was caught on camera, when he keyed someone's £100,000 Aston Martin.

I am wondering what sort of camera was used?

Just a dash cam by the looks of it. I think most are wide angle, and if you spend a bit more, will have very high resolution.

Am interested in this topic likewise.

So can a dash cam cover all 360 degrees of potential attack (or some dash cams at least) ??

Are warning signs alone likely to deter would be t*****s as in that youtube video ?? The green eyed monster obviously eating that dude but surely he must have though this 100k motor is going to have cctv coverage or was he just so obssessed in causing damage he didnt engage his miniscule brain ??

Looking at the footage again, unless it has been cropped, the field of vision does not seem to be that wide. But if you look online at dash cams, most seem to be advertising 170 degree coverage. So one of them facing front and another facing back has almost the full 360.

As for warning signs, not something i have seen (not that i have been looking!), and i certainly didn't get any when i bought my dash cam.

But i can only assume the dash cam used in the Aston's case was quite subtle (maybe one of the type built in or clipped over the rear view mirror) otherwise surely it would have been seen by the d**kh**d and he wouldn't have been stupid enough to do what he did?.

But don't dashcams switch themselves off after about half an hour unless they are wired to a permanently on fuse or obd 11 socket? Not much use for all day monitoring. Their angle of view is usually only about 140/150°, so unlikely to spot anything past the B pillar.

Yes i was thinking about that myself. Couple of possibilities though. First being that the car hadn't been parked for very long and so the cam (luckily) was still recording. Secondly, presumably there are going to be other options on high end cameras where it can be set to continuously record if leaving the car in a car park?.

I have a high res baby cam bought off e bay connected to a power bank, as is the front dashcam when parked. (no flat batteries)

Depends upon what you get but if your car is worth protecting you will one with a good parking mode, get it wired to a permanent live & have a battery protection device of some kind so that it switches off before draining the 12V battery significantly. Mine will run for about 48hrs before switching off. If you require even longer you can add in a powerbank or similar.
