Most sport is for the "must have it now" mindset. For many a two hour sporting event is optimal given other demands on their time. Hence the popularity of football, rugby, tennis, athletics etc etc - all of which is accompanied by media glitz and special effects designed to maximise income.
The 20:20 cricket experience falls to engage me - it is like other sports. Over in a few hours, not remotely subtle, just crash bang wallop.
The 50 over game lasting a day gives scope for judgement, tactics, weather impacts, pitch condition, balancing runs scored against wickets lost etc. I can't think of another team sport that does all this. There are a few of similar duration - eg: golf masters, snooker etc but they are not team games with all the other tactical variables.
So I enjoyed the final today but understand the unretired will find it difficult to make the time for more than a few hours entertainment.
