Astra G smoking - DarklordBaal

Hi

I have a 51 plate astra g 1.6 16v. When cold is a bit sluggish but kind of accepted given the age. Runs fine until the engine gets to 90 degrees then I get a white cloud on pulling off in 1st and a smaller cloud when accelerating hard.

There's no massive oil loss or coolant drop, no mayo on the oil cap. Am I looking at a head gasket fail, piston fail or something else?

Any help on this is welcome as currently is lining up for a scrapp age if I can't get this sorted.

At 18 years old I would expect some wear in the engine .My son had one of these and it started to use a bit of oil in its latter years. Certainly keeping the oil topped up is cheaper than any permanent fix which would be more than the value of the car. If the car is serviceable and passes an mot ,why scrap it.?

I'd opt for valve stem oil seals. No real problem and they can be replaced quite cheaply with the right gear. Alternatively, look at replacing the engine oil with something heavier.
