Mazda 6 - Steering angle sensor - kiss (keep it simple)

My Mazda 6 2012 (mk2) has a steering angle sensor fault. It pulls to the right at low speed but is fine once on the move. Does this job have to be done by a Mazda garage? Rang a recommended indie who said they couldn't be sure of configuring it correctly after fitting.

If the steering angle sensor is faulty, is there any warning light displayed for steering or traction/ esp system?

What's that for?

(I mean apart from sensing the steering angle, obviously, which chore I've always had to do myself)

.SUCH a drag, man

It's presumably to tell the power steering system where the wheels are pointing. No warning lights.

Why do you think it’s faulty? Is the steering wheel alignment correct when driving straight ahead.?

Thanks.

Almost every post I read on here I learn about some gizmo I don't have.

Cheers me up.

The steering angle sensor can be out of range if youve done some recent work to the steering, or have done an steering aliament with steering wheel not set to center. Steering angle sensor error deactivates abs and esp.

The steering angle sensor provides information to the controller with regard to the driver's steering intention, direction and rate of change. The sensor will not be the reason why the steering is pulling to one side, but it will be telling the controller you're away from zero even though you intend to go straight ahead if the sensor is not correctly calibrated. This may impact the performance and reliability of the ESP system.

The most likely cause of a steering pull is bad tyres. Swap the front wheels side to side and see if the car pulls the other way. If it does you know one of the front tyres is bad. YOU ARE VERY UNLIKELY TO TELL JUST BY LOOKING, so don't just assume they're good. If it makes no difference then swap the rear wheels side to side. If you identify which tyre is causing the problem make sure it's kept on the rear until you replace it.
