Thank you for the feedback. I have checked the code with the S/N and it should be correct.
A couple of thoughts:
I don't know where your husband got the S/N. If it's what the unit's display is telling him, it's probably correct. If it's what someone has scribbled somewhere, it may not be, or the unit could have been changed. To make the unit display the S/N, turn it on and press buttons 1 and 6 together; if this doesn't work, try 2 and 6. If you still fail to get the S/N, pull the unit a little way out of the dashboard (you will need special tools for this, but they are simple and cheap). There will be a label attached to the inside of the unit.
To enter the code, press button 1 repeatedly for the first digit of your radio code. Press 2 repeatedly for the second digit of your radio code. Press 3 repeatedly for the third digit of your radio code. Press 4 repeatedly for the fourth digit of your radio code. (On some units, you have use the arrow keys to change the digits.) Once your radio code is showing on the display, press and hold the number 5 button.
If no joy with the above, buying a second-hand unit is probably the cheapest solution.
