Light relief

Lidl regularly do a 4 pack of round 4xLED lights with adhesive pads, from experience the batteries last several years at an average of 1 hr per day, push on/push off.

They cost £3.99 last time I looked - probably a bit cheaper than the current costs of you flogging a dead horse.

(We used one on our bed headboard to make baby changing and feeds at 2am a lot easier).

I'm sure that some enterprising soul will sell us an LED light/torch with a a magnet on the side/end so you can stick it to the metal parts of the boot. All the OP has to then pay for the the unit and batteries (not very often either - I use a little LED torch from a Christmas cracker on the original battery from 5 years ago!).

The OP is having a laugh! I bet they're glad HJ only printes their initials and not their full name.

You asked are some people serious ?

Sadly some people are this crazy I have worked in the motor trade for many years and what some people complain about now is just madness all I can say is pity the poor Vauxhall dealer that has him as a customer !

I don’t believe that story about the boot light is real. It’s too ridiculous to be true - no one buys a Vauxhall Grandland.

"Get a torch".

This is why we love and appreciate HJ!

Anyone else finding the link to part 1 broken?
Honest John’s Motoring Agony Column 04-05-2019 Part 2 - danthere

yes, at 0124 BST. Like other readers I often find that part 1 or 2 are not readily available. They do eventually turn up though - perhaps HJ should feed them some Shell V Plus and put them on Cross Climates - those ubiquitous items seem to work wonders !11

""I guess it promotes a chemical reaction that converts the carbon to CO2."

That'd be combustion.

C +02 > CO2

To combust the carbon you have to get it hot.

To get it hot you have to burn fuel.

Most fuel is carbon-based (hence global warming, etc) so using most fuels would add carbon to the system you are trying to remove carbon from, which is not ideal.

Hydrogen is a (the? can't offhand think of any others) carbon-free fuel, so it doesn't add carbon.

So it makes sense that it would work.

Hardly rocket science. Well, not unless you were burning it in a rocket.

I know what the problem is danthere, DLDLDL is obviously clicking on parts 1 & 2 with the mouse in his right hand. It's a well established fact that reaction times for right handed clicking are much slower than left hand clicking. Swap hands, and if you do that when manoeuvering, you could even save a life.

(Sorry HJ...)

I've heard there is another important function that, by swapping to the left, can also significantly change reaction time ... =;0)

Honest John’s Motoring Agony Column 04-05-2019 Part 2 - danthere

..... aaah ! yes of course that's it .... except that ... in part 1 of HJ there is a comment by Keith that I just do not get ... .herewith ...

Keith Nason yesterday

...... HJ's main point in other posts is that there is a risk that you can press the accelerator and brake at the same time when you brake with your right foot. If you do this in a manual you would just press the clutch and disengage the gearbox, but in an auto you would just press down harder and the car is more likely to accelerate than slow down. ...... etc ,,,,,

... que ???

Typical first world softy. A Fiesta I once owned didn't have a rear passenger courtesy light so I bought one off Ebay and wired it to the front one myself. You do have to wonder how some people make it through life.

Light Relief.

It will cost only a few quid to get an auto electrician to properly wire some led lamps into the boot area, and wire/switch them to your specifications.

I had this done to our Hilux twin cab, which despite its huge cabin had one measly low wattage roof mounted festoon bulb, my auto sparky fitted led lights wired in properly to B and C pillars both sides, all controlled in conjunction with the original light, so able to be switched on manually, or door controlled, or all off.

Suggest you specify warm glow leds as those cool (4000K+?) leds cast a cold clinical light.

I'm worried that someone who did not notice the lack of a light, which is obviously a major feature to them, is actually driving at all?

I am picky and when buying a new car ALWAYS check everything works. When we bought our new Peugeot 106 in 1993 (our once and only new car), the boot light bulb had gone. Dealer replaced it there and then before I accepted car...

I take it the OP checked nothing when he took delivery..... Words fail me..or rather polite words fail me!

I don’t understand HJ’s s advice to DL and hoped someone else would comment.

First, the damage seems to be well outside the 6 months implied warranty for defects existing or developing at the time of purchase.

I am not convinced that the oil was inferior; that would seem to require a (fairly expensive) analysis that probably has not been done but let’s assume that is the case.

The OP says he did not change the oil and it was not due a service but also that the oil was changed by another Mazda dealer during a routine service. Maybe this is from the service history.

But he did get an oil change due to a leak a month after purchase. Why did he not go back to the selling dealer? Or did the selling dealer arrange for the work to be done at another dealer?
